St Andrews is recognized worldwide as the home of golf. Over the last six centuries, the game has been invented, frequently honed, yet rarely perfected on this famous links. Many visit. Some are fortunate to play. Few get the chance to callthe “home of golf”their own. Hamilton Grand provides that unique opportunity –to own a residence that is witness to golf history and the many memories yet to come in front of this distinctive residence. Standing alongside The Royal and Ancient Clubhouse, Hamilton Grand is the second most photographed building in golf. Yet for those who make it their home, it is not so much the view toward the building that matters, but the view from it. Step onto the sensational roof terrace and you understand why.

In 2015 The Open Championship returns to St Andrews, and residents will have an unrivalled position looking out over the 18th green, the entire St Andrews links and the beautiful West

Sands Beach. The panoramic view takes your breath away. The BBC’s “voice of golf”Peter Alliss put it perfectly: “It is the best view in golf.”

They say that if you want to see the whole of Scotland but don’t have the time, then just go to the
Kingdom of Fife.

They say, too, that if you want to experience Scottish culture and way of life at its best then move
to St Andrews.

St Andrews, ‘The Auld Grey Toon’, was the birthplace of golf. Its links was its nursery and the Old Course its academy. The clerics of the Church and the academics of its University honed and refined the game before The Royal and Ancient Golf Club gave it to the world.

But it was the honesty and integrity, innate in the character of St Andrews folk, which was imbued in golf and made it the ‘Great Game’.

Although its name is synonymous with golf, the rich history of St Andrews makes it a place of universal wonder. Here Scotland’s first University came to be; here the Reformation that consumed Northern Europe began. Quietly, unobtrusively, the town has embraced the best of the past whilst selectively embracing the usefulness of modernity. It is the blend of the past with the present that makes for the unique character of St Andrews.

More than a century ago, Thomas Hamilton treated the world to the Grand Hotel. A chosen retreat boasting infinite views of the Old Course at St Andrews, West Sands Beach and North Sea. It was also the first building in Scotland to have a pneumatic elevator and hot and cold water running in every bathroom, setting the benchmark for the ultimate in luxurious hospitality.

The Second World War saw the Air Ministry of the United Kingdom requisition The Grand Hotel, transforming the landmark into training headquarters for the Royal Air Force. The Grand Hotel was never to host high society again.

Shortly after the War, the University of St Andrews acquired the building and opened it as a halls of residence under the name Hamilton Hall. For 56 years, it faithfully served St Andrews’ student body. And now history has called it for a new purpose.

A new chapter is beginning and this one promises to be the greatest of all.
